I am mostly plagiarizing this from some things I have received from the wedding industry publications. I hate to cheat, but feel these things need to be said.
Brides and families are so saturated with information from so many directions that they have become disillusioned about the entire wedding world. There are so many wedding vendors popping up all through the network, and our poor brides have to suffer through all these choices. Some are not well informed about so many things because they are in the euphoric stage of planning. Sometimes euphoria does not equate to good decisions. Over my 30 some years of photographing weddings, I have been approached “after” the great event, only find the bride tell me she made a bad choice on her planner, photographer, music, etc. Great planners, great photographers & images, and great music & emcees can make or break your event. Leaving your most important milestone to a wannabe has disaster written all over it.
Because not enough homework is being done by the bride, and because there are so many amateurs posing as professionals, the true professionals are given a bad name. Why? Because the bride associates ALL wedding people as the same. So not true.
Brides, do your homework. Choose wisely. Your college photographer friend may not be the wedding person you want, although they say they can do it and do it cheap. The frathouse party guy who says he can do music at your wedding may not be the best emcee for your grand event. Playing music does not equate to keeping the flow going. Just because your mom plans a few parties does not mean she can plan a grand affair with all the trimmings. The amateurs do not have the resources a true professional has.
If you want to truly enjoy your event without all the stress that can typically enter in, hire the true professional. They know what they are doing and have been through this many times before.
I know I have.
