Planning a Wedding to Suit Your Budget: Tips and Tricks

So, you’ve recently gotten engaged to the love of your life; now comes the process of planning for the wedding! At first glance, the task may seem daunting, and you may be wondering how you’ll ever be able to plan an entire wedding that fits within your comfortable budget. After all, did you know that the average cost of a wedding in Indianapolis is about $22,000?

No matter how big or small your budget may be, what matters most is that you’ll be entering into a covenant with your beloved in front of your closest family and friends. For added peace of mind, however, there are a few steps you can take to keep your wedding budget under control.

Figure Out Your Priorities

First of all, sit down with your partner and make a list of the three things that are most important to both of you at your wedding. For example, your list might look something like this (or not, depending on your unique priorities):

  • A great Indianapolis-area wedding photographer to capture those special moments.
  • A beautiful venue where you will say your vows.
  • Wonderful music and entertainment for your loved ones.

Once you’ve determined where your priorities lie, make it a point to spend the highest percentage of your budget in those areas. And consider using our handy Wedding Budget Spreadsheet to help you keep track along the way.

Choose an Off-Peak Ceremony Time

Another possible way to save money on your wedding is to select a date and time that’s considered “off-peak.” Since most weddings are held on Saturdays, the demand to rent out venues and hire professionals on these days is much higher. As such, you may be able to save a pretty penny by booking your wedding on a weekday or even on a Sunday instead.

The same goes for peak seasons; in Indianapolis, these tend to be during the summer and fall. Instead, then, maybe consider a beautiful wedding in a winter wonderland or a fun spring wedding.

Get Creative With Cuisine

Finally, if “food” wasn’t one of the things that made it onto your wedding priority list, then you may want to forgo the fancy five-course meal with full waitstaff at your reception. Instead, consider setting up a buffet style meal for your wedding, which will cut down on waitstaff and food costs dramatically while giving your guests more variety to choose from.

Take a deep breath and remember that having a beautiful and meaningful wedding ceremony isn’t about how much money you spend; it’s about the commitment you and your partner are making to each other.  By keeping these tips in mind and by utilizing a mobile-friendly wedding planning service like Plan The Day
