If you’re newly engaged and embarking on the journey of planning your dream wedding, there’s a good chance you’ve already had quite a few people approach you and offer you some planning advice. “You need to find your venue first,” one person may say. Another person may tell you, “you can’t do anything until you’ve decided on a date!” It all seems a bit overwhelming, doesn’t it?
In reality, though, the best way to get started in planning your dream wedding with your partner is to figure out what your priorities are and to go from there. After all, what matters to you is bound to be different from what matters to all those people trying to give you advice.
So, what’s important to you? Maybe you want to prioritize an amazing wedding photographer and videographer so you can capture every moment of your big day and relive it for years to come. Or maybe the venue itself is the most important aspect of your wedding day. Perhaps you’ve always loved flowers, or you want to feel beautiful in a designer gown. And of course, just maybe, you have no idea whatsoever and are therefore looking into hiring a wedding planner.
No matter where your priorities lie, the only fact that unifies all brides is that each one is a unique individual. Your idea of a perfect, fairytale wedding isn’t going to be the same as the next bride’s…and that’s a good thing! So while it can be helpful to read advice articles on wedding planning, it’s important to take all that advice with a grain of salt. Above all else, do what works for you and everything else will fall into place.
A piece of advice from me about the process? Create a hard-copy list to prioritize your wedding-day goals. Feel free to print this blog post out and use the space below to write out your top three priorities.
From there, you’ll be well on your way to planning your dream wedding. It may not be everybody’s dream wedding, but that’s not what matters. It’s all about what you, the bride, wants.
